The Illinois Property Assessment Institute (IPAI) is a non-profit organization established to elevate professional standards and provide educational opportunities to property assessment professionals throughout Illinois. For more than 50 years, IPAI has been the preferred credentialing and education provider for the property assessment industry within the state of Illinois. The IPAI owns and confers the Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation, which is the primary designation used to be an elected or appointed assessor in Illinois.
Members of the IPAI Board of Directors include representatives from the County Assessment Officers Association (CAOA), Illinois Assessors Association (IAA), and CIAO Association. The CAOA holds two seats on the Board with one CAOA member being nominated each year to serve a two-year term. CAOA members also serve on IPAI committees and teach for the Institute.
